Take Chelsea furniture outside and be amazed at the staying power of teak. Rich with natural oils, teak can withstand the elements for decades. It requires minimal maintenance and does not need to be sealed or treated on a regular basis. Although the surface oil evaporates, the oil below the surface will last the lifetime of the furniture and enables the unmatched durability of the wood. The only maintenance required to care for teak furniture is periodic cleaning. Teak can be washed with mild soap and water. A soft utility brush can be used to remove surface dirt and dust. The furniture must be rinsed thoroughly after cleaning and be allowed to dry completely. The wood will turn to a silver-gray after a season or two outdoors. And it will remain like that without ever warping, twisting, rotting or splintering. However, cleaning furniture with a commercial grade teak cleaner will remove the silver-gray finish on the wood and restore the original golden tone.
